initially yes. But, as OPPO's Vovlo go to dude, i'd have to reeeeally take a good look at it's service history for some key issues that need attention at this exact point.

The only thing I know is that the dealer (whose site you should look at) has a decent reputation and specializes in 8-20 y/o Volvo.

Not sure if you've driven this car, but just a fair bit of warning, the turning radius is rough - to say the least.

Good Luck!

I have heard of transmission failure in the earlier models.

Yes, I've driven one. The turning radius is bad, but not as bad as some things I'm looking at. Not sure if this Volvo is really the one for me (it's looking more and more like I'll be buying in-town) but it is definitely in the conversation.

Yeah, I figured as much. People kept telling me that about the similar era S80 T6, and I figured since they share a platform and power train, they would share issues.

Are you sure? I'd say mine is a bit better than most vehicles of that size...

T6 = transmission failure. Do not buy unless you know a mechanic who can do a good rebuild/modification and not gouge you in the process.

For the curious, this GM transmission is the same one as in the Pontiac Grand Prix of the day, which was fitted with some sort of (mechanical) performance upgrade from the factory. Somebody on one of the Volvo forums fitted this part to his XC90 T6, and hasn't had problems since.

well, Volvos are basic mechanical for the most part and we all specialize in old Volvos for a reason lol. It is a good price, as long as some key things have been attended to, i'll hold my judgement. Interior and exterior are sooo nice on this thing.

Yes I'm sure. I've had one and it is awful. It is literally one of the worst in its class at 13.1meters

Then don't get the 19 or 20-inch wheels... XC90's with eighteens or under have the same radius as the BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, etc.

Except when compared to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the XC90's turning radius is good for a mid-size SUV.

Relax Tonto, my original comment was a mere suggestion/observation. I'm not the only one that thinks this: http://www.caradvice.com.au/177781/volvo-x… "except of course if you need to turn around in a tight space. Its 13.1-meter turning circle is atrocious"

Not saying you're wrong! The 13m is for White Fellers with 19 or 20-inch wheels. Ones with 17 or 18-inchers can turn around in 12m, though.
